Ask any interior designer in South Florida what the trends for 2016 are going to be and you’ll hear a few common themes.  We’ve put together an instantaneous list of the trends the designers are bragging about for this year in the Boca Raton area.

Beachfront minimalist property

This year’s interiors have changed from polished stainless steel appliances to black stainless steel.  The new finish for appliances compliment stone, polished concrete and marble.  Black stainless steel is fingerprint-less making this finish top choice for kitchen remodels and upgrades for 2016. The finish flatters industrial modern designs which is part of the minimalist theme.  Kitchen Aid’s black stainless steel stove has outstanding features such as knobs calibrated with precision to reach true temperatures while cooking. On all their newer appliances the handles have been crafted with crisscross grip. This etching prevents any slipping while your hands are wet. These are some of the features that make these appliances fitting in today’s décor while spending time in your kitchen. Not only are the appliances beautiful, they're functional.Kitchen Aid Black Stainless Steel Appliances

Another area of the kitchen that’s changing is cabinetry. Mismatched cabinets are creating a statement providing a fresh look opposite the proportionate cabinets.  Two different finishes paired with the right combination create a stunning look.  Whether you choose to do lighter colors on the top or bottom, it doesn’t matter as long as you pick finishes that harmonize together. Shiny, lacquered textures paired with elegant natural wood update the look but also adds elegance. This posh style is well presented in your kitchen and dining areas.

Updates on formal dining is now taking precedence to breakfast nook or kitchen seating areas.  This year you’ll see families using their formal dining areas. You’ll find newer construction that open up floor plans linking together living areas, kitchens and dining rooms.  This is another way that people are modifying their homes and staying in touch with the traditional living.  Many dining rooms are now equipped with updated elements such as fireplaces that you can see in two or more rooms.

Fireplaces are becoming the new focal point in not so obvious places. Bedrooms and bathrooms are taking on a whole new living space and elements like fireplaces and water fountains are being added. Adding either of these items makes peaceful areas of the home and gives a more intimate setting.

Think about adding a seating area in your bathroom that serves as a reading space. Bidets are also becoming more common, in even the most modest of homes.  Design-Build firms are adding these features as a part of their plans, staying current.  No matter what the new addition may be, the bathroom and bedroom is now our new retreat and builders are giving home owners what they want.

The home office is now redesigned with ergonomic solutions. Stand-up desk space as opposed to sitting, and multi-functional furniture are useful. Keep in mind it's minimal but functional.

Contemporary, clean and industrial modern décor is what you’ll be seeing featured in models and updated homes but the key word here is "minimalist." Space that breathes with natural essentials and industry blended in harmony are splashed in every magazine. Nautical, and Coastal properties are no stranger to this style.  Thick rope and metal art pieces’ compliment soft pastel wood and outdoor textures.  Hearty earth tones mixed with subdued pastels are what’s making a statement.  Soft, serene, and dreamy is the feeling you’ll get when you walk into the studious style luxury homes. No loud or dark colors that overwhelm a space.

The focus on the exterior is heading to the backyard living space.  People in South Florida spend a great deal of time outdoors and love to entertain on the terrace or patio.  More people are turning their backyard into an area of splendor, making an extra room that's both fun and relaxing.  By adding items such as pizza ovens, lounge chairs and accent lighting, the back porch is now set for an evening under the stars at the best venue in town! Although your outdoors, you’ll continue to see the use of polished metals as accents and continuing with our minimalist leitmotif.

Minimalist Style

Material flooring is shifting from dark wood to light gray’s and natural finishes. Pastel color paint paired with flooring such as laminated, hardwood and cork are being displayed in lighter earthy tones.  You will see metallic accents in almost every room. These accents could be anything from a mirror finished with polished copper, to a vase or designer pillow decorated with gold foil.  Gold, silver and copper paired with raw, natural materials like marble and wood are taking over the decorator’s palette. Calm colors like pastel pinks, and blues have made a statement with calm subdued tones and hues. These color schemes are taking charge of the once sage, espresso and dark rust colors of yesterday. With oceanfront properties you’ll still find white with splashes of pastels for your accent walls and other pieces.  This style is reflecting a tranquil and peaceful feeling you get when you’re at home.

With the help of a talented interior designer you can remodel or update your home to give a soothing and quiescent atmosphere ready for 2016.
