While the government is seeking new ways to improve our environment, businesses such as Florida Power and Light continue to do the same. When you live in any of our country clubs or luxury condominiums you can rest assure they are doing things to improve and be eco-friendlier. This week’s blog uncovers more details where businesses and homeowners are doing their part.

If you’re currently living in an estate without solar power or some other form of renewable energy, one thing you can do is to turn your home into a smart one. You can do this by contacting a dealer in the area who specializes in home automation systems. While most people think of these devices to control features such as lighting and security, they also lower your energy bill because you the technology allows you to control the temperature of the home more adequately. So even if you aren’t currently set up with solar power or wind power, you can be still doing your part. This system makes the most sense when living in places like Townsend Place or any of our high-rise communities.

Having a green home custom made is the optimum time to decide on adding some type of LEED construction, but also to add a system that is right for your location. There are several types of systems that are considered energy sources. Solar or Photovoltaic and Ocean are two common types that are common. Many of these systems are listed on FPL’s website and are eligible for net metering. Net metering is a program where you are using less energy and FPL basically pays you for the difference from the excess power used from the grid. There is a process that you’ll need to complete to qualify for these benefits. You will be saving about 30% of your bill. Excellent for those adding solar panels or finding some other way to obtain sustainable energy solutions.

There are several ways to incorporate energy sources for your home or business. Let’s first look at all the different ways to create energy. Here are the different types of energy sources you could use for either your home or business.
 Solar Energy (photovoltaic)
 Wind Energy
 Biomass (landfill or methane)
 Hydroelectric power
 Ocean energy
 Waste Heat
 Geothermal

Solar energy or photovoltaic is the most common and probably the first thing you think of when we think of real property and renewable energy systems. If you’re looking to have one of these systems installed will last approximately 20 years. However, check with the manufacturer. These can easily produce close to 80% of the energy your home uses. Of course, there are several things to factor in. Today’s modules are much nicer looking than previous models. At least they seem to be heading in the right direction. If you’re adding this technology to an existing home, be sure to go through a referral.

Wind energy is created by turbines and wind along with a generator. The state is currently offering generous rebates for this type of power system to be installed. Companies like Vortex has pioneered this type of renewable energy to be more geared for residential and commercial. Their technology claims to provide 20%-40% more energy output than older style turbines. Vortexis is a Florida based company dedicated to finding wind energy solutions.

Florida currently has more Biomass resources than any other state. This is highly due to our ability to have strong agricultural communities where things such as citrus pulp and grass turn into forms of power because they’re organic materials are reusable.  Many of the local businesses in Boca Raton are currently using biomass fuel for energy conservation.

Hydroelectric power is yet another source that is environmentally friendly. This source uses the force of energy from moving water to generate power. Anytime you see a business that is located next to a moving body of water, it’s more than likely using the moving water to control turbines that is pumping out electricity. Ocean energy is similar to hydroelectric power. Many of our canals and waterways are controlled by the US Army Corps of Engineers. If you’re looking to buy property on a canal, you’ll see when this organization is working because the tide or levels will fluctuate.

>Business such asWaste Managementoperate on wind, solar and landfills to convert trash into energy. They are producing more than 550 megawatts of power. That’s enough power for up to 440,000 homes! They’ve also been endorsed by the Environmental Protection Agency making them a super green company. The least we need to know is that our trash is being used for good.
When it comes to waste heat, we generally think of the tall stacks with steam or gases blowing out. Waste heat and waste heat recovery involves more industrial and commercial properties. Diesel fuel is a byproduct of waste heat.
Regardless of the type of energy sources that you’re interested in, we all have to do our part in managing a clean and healthy planet. It’s nice to know that many of our residential developments such as Townsend Place and Boca Grand are doing a multitude of green friendly tasks. Things like trash receptacles, recycling and a number of environmental care is always on the forefront in these communities. This is another reason why people concerned with saving our planet look toward investing in these properties as a positive venture. If you’re seeking alternative forms of energy, be sure to visit the Florida Power and Lights website to learn more.
Many of these renewable energy solutions have programs attached such as rebates and tax incentives. While the government funding fluctuates, it’s a good idea to contact your state senate to encourage more activity with money donated.
If you’d like to become a donor or volunteer as an advocate for getting involved at the local level. There is a multitude of organizations that you can attach to. You’ll be glad you did as you’re playing a big role in making the planet healthier.
