You’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to travel to New York City to catch some of the finest symphony events or ballet performances. We’ve got everything your heart desires in Boca Raton and this week’s blog reveals some leading world-class events that will make your heart melt with joy. These well-crafted depictions of music and grace are every ballerinas and musicians fantasy. Fantastic shows are all within a short driving distance for you, your friends or family to admire.
You don't have to know about ballet to enjoy it, all you have to do is look at it.” Edwin Denby.
Let us explain further.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of attending a symphony or ballet, you already know these performing arts can lead you on adventures stimulating the mind by capturing you with every note played or step danced. These types of shows delight people of all ages whether they’re new to the music or dancing and Boca Raton has a variety of both for impeccable tastes no matter who you are.

For both admirers and enthusiasts who do not mind little travel to see a show, you’ve plenty to choose. One place that isn’t far, but is a fantastic venue to see a show or in this case ballet is the Broward Center for the Performing Arts located in Fort Lauderdale. With a drive of less than half an hour down the I-95 corridor, you can be sitting on the edge of your seat ready to be amused by some of the best ballet dancers in town. This theater is one that will keep your calendar filled with shows year around so be sure to check their website for further plays and such. South Florida Symphony Orchestra logo
Currently running is Cabaret with the Miami City Ballet scheduled shortly after. Dates set for the ballet are Feb 4th and 5th. Many of the finest dancers will attend as they create visual excitement on the stage with stories of romance and betrayal. Who can’t love the form of ballet with the elegant steps from both modern to classic?

Another performance you’ll want to add to your calendar is done by the students from the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton. In this case, you won’t have to commute far at all. Spring performances start at the end of May and will be showcased at the Countess de Hoernle Theater on Jog Road. This conservatory is directed by Gordon Wright from the Winnipeg Ballet School in Canada. A past director of the National Association of Schools of Dance and a world-renowned dancer himself assists students in finding their gifts at the facility. The conservatory is a wonderful place to enroll your loved ones if they aspire to be on the stage.

One of the best parts of ballet is that you don’t have to understand it to enjoy. These performances whether they are seen at the Broward or Boca Raton locations will leave you breathless as you see the complex movements along with the synchronization of the dancers. Each performance choreographed with precision as an aesthetic odyssey for the eyes and ears. Spending an evening at the ballet can certainly enrich your life one scene at a time, and we hope you get a chance to experience this type of entertainment at least once.

For those seeking perfection in music, you will not want to miss the concert at the South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) this Sunday. From January 22-26, you can sit back and enjoy the Friedrich Nietzsche inspired “Ubermensch” at the campus of Florida Atlantic University located in Boca Raton. They will hold the event at the posh Carole & Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium which is located off Glades Road in Boca Raton. This is a real treat for the SFSO who features composer Tom Hormel and Violinist Tessa Lark and Maestra Maria Alfonso. All extraordinary with the contributions to the compositions they implore.

Composer Tom Hormel, a Floridian resident, and environmentalist has also worked with directors such as Jacques d’Ambiose at the New York City Ballet. Tom is well known for his works titled “Legend of Bird Mountain” that includes an excellent four-minute composition within the piece. It should be exciting to see how well Hormel and Lark execute the melodies that have made them both so well known. These musical scores are sure to haunt you long after leaving the theater and are a must hear for the fine-tuned ear.

Another pleasant sound is that of the vocals and strings of Tessa Lark. In fact, award-winning, Lark holds some extraordinary accolades for her accomplishments with both her voice as well as playing the violin. Lark has played nationally and held the silver medal at the 2014 International Violin Competition. She’s mostly noted by the instrument she plays which is a 1683 “ex-Gingold” Stradivari Violin which is on loan from Josef Gingold. An impressive young woman with a long track record of holding the critics at bay with her multi-talents.

Another exciting point to make about the orchestra is the world-renowned conductor, Maestra Sebrina Maria Alfonso who is one of the only women conductors in the industry today. Alfonso has performed globally from Key West to Tokyo and continues to impress audiences with her powerful musical impact. Undoubtedly Alfonso will bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the many scores heard in each piece.
