American and Canadian puzzle for Jean-Luc Andriot blog
Without a doubt, South Florida happens to be one of the biggest melting pots in the nation today. With both European and International markets declining in home sales, it seems more people are investing property in places such as Boca Raton. While moving to Boca is not a new trend, more Canadians are investing in property in Palm Beach counties than ever before. On this blog we highlight some of the reasons why our Northern friends continue to make this coastal area their vacation and secondary homes.

*In a recent article found in Huffington Post, they report Canadians who live in Toronto and Vancouver are under stress due to sky rocketing prices in their real estate markets. Because there's rumor of a global housing bubble. (Something we are hearing more of) We will see more people downsizing or relocating all together. While we can't project the future of housing 100%, we can say that there will more than likely be an increase in homes bought and sold in the states because of events like Brexit. Whatever the case may be, Boca Raton will surely welcome any of our new resident including the 'snowbirds' moving to the area.

If you live anywhere in Florida, you will often hear the term "Snowbirds" when referring to people migrating to the South from places like the North East, Midwest and of course Canada. During the months of October to April is the typical season where this population seems to flock to the shores of Palm Beach, Broward and Treasure Coast counties. Their goals seem to want the warmth during their cold winter months, and to avoid snow. When the heat gets turned back up, they head back to the comfort of their original homes. But, why do so many of these folks want to invest in properties here?

First, the climate is perfect for those who love outdoor activity, sandy beaches and a multitude of water sports are vast in this region. Fishing, boating and even paddle boarding are loved by so many of the locals as well as transients. The waterways are full of proof during the season when everyone is visiting or vacationing. But, other than the variety of sea sports, there's plenty of other reasons they look to buy property here.

Boca Raton is a hub for the medical arts. The best service and technology are coming from places such as Boca Regional Hospital, West Boca Medical and a whole host of other doctors' offices. Many of these places specialize in practices for the elderly. Another portion of the medical field that sometimes is overlooked. Places that promote health and wellness are equally sought after by this population.

There is a large amount of wellness centers in the Boca Raton area. Hormone replacement therapy is a huge industry here, along with plastic surgery. The quest for keeping our youth is always at the forefront of the population no matter where you're from. Or so it seems. Nonetheless, if you aren't looking for the fountain of youth, then you maybe you're seeking a good place to entertain and bring friends?
The little town known as "A City for All Seasons" has world-class restaurants, cafes and dining experiences on this side of the Atlantic. Top-notch chefs from around the globe share their culinary creations with the community. One thing you can bet on, is the Canadian population loves to live the good life. Many of our residents in developments like Mizner Grand and Townsend Place reside in these places for their part-time homes because of the great selection of eateries nearby. Mizner Park is well known and hosts many spots to meet with friend's like Ruth Chris and Trulucks to name a few. No matter what the flavor of cuisine you're after, you can find it here.

Other than dining, this area has a great selection of golf courses and country clubs offering a full schedule of tennis as well as teeing off. Canada is a great country with many golf courses. But, let's face facts, it's a little challenging working on your swing when ice is melting on the green. We've run into many happy Northerners on the fairways coming down, during season to enjoy their favorite pastimes. With the many golf clubs in this area such as Boca Country Club, Boca Raton Resort and Club as well as Boca Greens there's plenty of action for those looking to yell "Fore!"

Entertainment and the arts come alive in this seaside town. Just take one look online and you'll find there's a high following for art museums and galleries. Some of the world's renowned artists frequent the area. The Boca Raton Museum of Art as well as Keith C and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts center host events for those who want to indulge or looking for inspiration. These venues are excellent for anyone thirsting culture in a high end establishment. No matter if you're taking in a show or seeing an exhibit, people of all ages enjoy the variety of fine arts found right here in the city limits.

Another feature that draws the Canadian migrants here is our many philanthropic organizations that call Boca Raton home. The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County offers a Canadian Tax credit when donors participate. There are several events throughout the year where people volunteer and get involved in giving back to the community. Because so many walks of life are a part of our community, it's not surprising to meet people and socialize during galas and other fundraisers.

Boca Raton has also been home for many Canadian celebrities such as tennis pro, Chris Evert who once owned her home here. Whether you're a celebrity or a person with a high profile, this area caters to affluently successful people. Many of the homes here offer great security and property in gated communities. Privacy is respected and easily obtained in most of our resident housing and luxury condominium complexes.

Many of our Canadian friends are avid fisherman and sportsman all around. South Florida is one of the best places for fishing and hunting. Whether deep sea or fresh water fishing, there's several charter boats for you to participate. If hunting big game is more your speed, then remember, there are no zodiac bear. However, we do have excellent resources for hunting, gators, snakes, bear and wild boar. Bob Hayes Little Lake Lodge hosts both dog and swamp buggy tours for your preference to give you an idea of possibilities. There's a little something for everyone in this area which is most likely the biggest reason people choose to relocate. Regardless of whether it's year round or during the season, it's a well sought after neighborhood.

Whether they're coming here for the many activities or because the housing market is ideal, we know our Canadian comrades are an important part of our community. We're sure they like it here too, since the population of Canadian residents is roughly 20%. Nonetheless, we're glad to have a strong bond with this population and we're glad it's continuing to grow.
