The Honda Classic Palm Beach County

The Honda Classic will be held this February 22 through to February 28th 2016.  This annual event is held at the PGA National Resort &  located at 400 Avenue of the Champions in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida 33418.  The annual tournament carries a goal each year of raising money for the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation and has helped many kids in need.

The Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation’s mission is to raise funds in order to provide families pediatric health care.  The foundation was founded by Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and has a focus on helping families with ill children have access to sufficient diagnosis, treatment and prevention of health problems.

This philanthropic event started in 1972.  Formerly titled the “Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic”, has helped over 44 charities and continues to build that list today. Several sponsors continue supporting the tournament such as United Technologies and Jupiter Medical. These companies contribute a great deal to the many causes that the Children’s Healthcare Charity has targeted throughout the year.

A premier professional sporting event carrying a long list of players since 1984. “The Honda Classic” was presented to the lineup on the PGA Tour paving the way with players such as Rory McIlroy, Mark Calcavecchia, and Curtis Strange. These pros have shared the graces with the challenging 18-hole course in the past and many newer names it's green glory will see in its future.  Padraig Harrington won last year’s PGA Championship, which was almost washed out due to a bad storm.  Nonetheless, these players have the same goals in mind; to bring in fans, raise money for a charitable cause and have a great game of golf.

Besides the players enjoying themselves, the tournament dedicates Saturdays to families.  Children can take in a lesson at the Junior Clinic with Dennis Walters. Walters has made over 3,000 appearances doing his show, giving lessons both about golf and life. After his accident in 1974 where he became a paraplegic Walters found a way to keep golfing and pursuing his lifelong dream. The kids are sure to get a kick out of him since he does shots through fire and blindfolded. Dennis will be one of the main attractions for the family day along with other features like fireworks and a kid’s club.

Since we have the optimal weather in the Southern Florida Region, we have a large amount of Golf Tournaments.  The Professional Golf Association is certainly no stranger to the Palm Beach County areas. This is also an area where you can find people to be generous when it comes to charity.  In a study done by WalletHub, we ranked 18 out of the 50 representing states that are of the most charitable.

Wallethub is an online platform that enables you to review financial products, professionals and companies. They share with and learn from a diverse community of conglomerates. Regardless of whether or not you’re there to represent this worthy event, you must take some time to check on the gorgeous neighborhood of Palm Beach Gardens.

Once a dairy cattle grazing land, Palm Beach Gardens grew to a modest population of less than 51,000. With a tropical landscape and plenty of Banyan Tree’s it’s not a wonder why anyone would be enchanted attending this event.  No matter if you’re a visiting player or a long term resident, the scenery looks like it’s taken out of a storybook.  There are many gems to behold in Palm Beach Gardens and the PGA National Resort & Spa is one of them.

PGA National Resort & Spa Palm Beach Gardens

PGA National Resort & Spa is a luxury resort will be dazzled with the multi-million-dollar face-lift.  The 33,000-square-foot Sports & Racquet Club was added as a new level in this active PGA lifestyle venue.  Be sure to check out the other additions in the resort that’s setting precedence over the others.

Just as the other hotels will try to compete against PGA National Resort & Spa, the list of competition is intense on this tour.  Guys like Jason Bohn, Chad Collins and Tom Gillis will be competing for the trophy among a long list of other athletes.  The cut off time is Friday, February 19, 2016 @ 5:00 PM.  One member we were disappointed not to see on this list was that of Tiger Woods.  We wish him all the best taking time for himself nonetheless.

Just as Tiger has won many tournaments over the past, many of our newer players will have a shot at winning this year’s purse of 6.1 million dollars.  The winner’s share capped out at 1,098,000 this year a great contribution to the players that work so hard at this game of skill and craftsmanship.

Skill is definitely something required to play on this champion course. Plenty of water and lush foliage to get in the way of a Mulligan or Bogey. Jack Nicklaus comments on Hole No. 14 “The green falls away on each side, but the bunkers are not against the green and it is a very difficult putting surface”. The 465 Yard Par 4 is noted as being very challenging.  The other element that the players might have against them is weather.

The weather this time of year can be finicky.  With the recent snow plummeting the North East, our tropical winds have picked up speed and rain is inevitable.  Many of us are contemplating that the weather will be at least kind during those six days.  That’s what we are all hoping for and if we’re fortunate the players will have the opportunity to play without the diverse weather conditions.
