In addition to the area, springtime offers an overabundance of activity for you to become involved. In this week’s blog, we discuss why giving back is important and outline some of the charities who are organizing local events for you to attach.

Why Philanthropy in Boca Raton is Important

Other than finding new friends, volunteering your time, money and efforts is a valuable part of life. Not only are you making an impact on the community, but you'll also find inspiration deep within that keeps you motivated. Furthermore, philanthropy can also be good for your health as it helps to lower stress and bring forth happiness. In some cases, giving back to your community or those in need can help you take on new roles building self-esteem as well as developing skills such as leadership, teaching, and even construction! Finding new opportunities within Palm Beach County is a breeze, and this time of year, there’s plenty of projects to attach yourself. Here’s a few past and present for your consideration.

There’s Still Time to Donate to Run from the Rays

Although this organization just completed a 5K run, titled "Run from the Rays" which is a non-profit for you to still help throughout the year. This past April, Run from the Rays raised awareness as well as $140,000 in donations while competing with over 800 runners. Held at the Spanish River Athletic Complex, this race is the vision of a local surgical nurse who has pioneered the skin cancer prevention and treatment along with the fight against melanoma. The mission of this notable charity is to help children learn about the damages caused by skin cancer and the harmful rays of the sun. Besides this population being at risk, there are approximately 76,700 new cases reported each year with 7% of cancers where children are involved melanomas. While the race has finished, the organization is still taking donations. Be sure to visit their website to learn more at www.runsignup.com

One Stand Up Comedian’s Approach to Dealing with TOL

Next, we find that charities come in all shapes and sizes including “Living to be Funny” which is a prestigious event held at Mizner Park’s Cultural Arts Center. This movie and performance is a unique way of presenting such serious topics as open heart surgery. Besides building such awareness, tetralogy of Fallot is a heart condition that is incredibly complex and something people have at birth. According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 1,660 children are born with this congenital disability each year. You can participate on May 18th by attending the event or helping with a donation. While heart disease may be no laughing problem, Comedian Jay Risk, helps people to cope with TOF through humor as well as his documentary. Be sure to get involved whether you’ve just moved here or have been a Boca Raton resident your whole life.

Zumba isn’t Just for Exercise in Delray Beach

Since there are so many excellent groups in the “City for All Seasons" it's hard to name everyone in town. However, Zumbathon may be one that will pique your interest as it combines a 90-minute Zumba Class along with a goal to help Mascots for A Cure. This charitable event will be held May 27th, 2017 at the Cardona’s Academy of Martial Arts in Delray Beach. Because so many families fall under the fate of Cancer afflicting their lives, this organization is dedicated toward fighting the disease. Not only does this 501c raise significant money for research and care for patients, but they also build hope on a local and national level by holding fundraisers and partnering with larger scale non-profits. These are excellent ways to show your friendly disposition while working toward a worthy cause so be sure to get involved.

Country Clubs in Boca Raton Hold Charitable Events

Even more, philanthropy has prevailed throughout our fine city in these spring months. For instance, the Best Foot Forward Foundation recently held its 7th annual BFF Bash at one of our lovely locations The Polo Club. The celebration was a black-tie affair including a cocktail party, formal dinner, and silent auction. Best Foot Forward is a wonderful foundation benefiting the education of foster children nationwide. In fact, as you may know, this population of children suffer from abuse and neglect and need rebuilding their future circumstances. Education and academia are known for providing these school-aged children with an opportunity to grow. Those kids help to improve and keep our future economy thriving, so it only makes sense to participate. Organizations such as BFF, are always seeking volunteers regardless of current events. Whether you are interested in helping with baking cookies to being on the board of directors, these types of teams will contribute to encourage your involvement.

The Most Important Reason for Giving Back

While there are plenty of events held throughout the year in Boca Raton, these are a few that need your support and spring is the time to become involved. You can be helping build a stronger foundation within your immediate neighborhoods and global communities. Not only are you transforming lives, you remember how lucky you may be. Perhaps the single most important aspect of giving to your favorite charity is the joy and happiness it will bring you personally.

In closing, you are welcome to participate in any of the non-profit organizations listed on today’s blog or start your own. Either way, we’d like to hear from you to learn about your experiences.
