The Many Faces of Hammock Reserve in Delray Beach
Hammock Reserve homeowners Galivans
Catie and Paul Gallivan moved to Hammock Reserve in 2002, two years after the development was completed. She is originally from Chicago and presently is the store manager at Lily Pulitzer in Boca Raton. He is from Buffalo, NY and is a vice president and financial advisor at Morgan Stanley in Boca Raton.
The couple was actively house hunting when they discovered Hammock Reserve. Both immediately liked the neighborhood. “It was quiet, and we thought if we had children, it would be suitable,” he says.
Today, the Gallivan’s still live in Hammock Reserve but their family has grown, and they have two daughters, Cecilia, 5, and Piper, 3. Catie says their children love their screened family pool, but they also enjoy playing in the heated, Olympic-sized community pool and the playground adjacent to it. “They like the playground in the park (Orchard View) that is across the street too,” their father says.
Inside their house, Catie and Paul enjoy the great room and how open the space is. “We use the back patio and pool a lot too, especially with the girls,” she says.
“We feel safe, and it’s a great location,” he added. “And it’s close to the beach, and the neighbors are terrific and easy going.”

Hammock Reserve was built by award-winning DiVosta Homes. With DiVosta’s 50 plus years experience building in Florida, nothing was overlooked in the design or development. Exterior walls are built with poured concrete and reinforced with steel to provide extra wind protection.
Two designs of the Mediterranean-styled homes were built in this development ─ the 3-bedroom, 2-bath, 1,567-square-foot, Glenwood, and the 3-bedroom, 2 bath, 2,198-square-foot, Oakmont. All have a master bath off the master suite. A laundry room and a double attached garage are also standard. Some of the homes back up to one of the five lakes in the community. Others to a four-acre nature hammock preserve and trail.

Cathy and Joevan Valenzuela moved to South Florida from Manila, the capital of the Philippines in 1994. She is an RN at Boca Community Hospital in Boca Raton and is an avid gardener. He is the principal at Beacon Consulting Engineers in Boynton Beach.
The pair looked at different communities in South Florida before they happened on to Hammock Reserve. “It’s quiet, peaceful and very clean. The best thing is the location. It’s very close to the beach, shopping and good schools and accessible to I-95,” he says. Their family has grown since they first arrived in the U.S. They have three daughters, Chelsea, 20, Caroline, 13, and Cathleen, 10. Their Pomeranian, Lillie, rounds out the family.
Chelsea is a sophomore at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, Caroline is in the eighth grade at Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach and Cathleen is in the fifth grade at Banyan Creek Elementary School in Delray Beach.
Cathy says that what she and Joevan like best about their home is the open concept and how light and bright it is because of the many windows. “We enclosed the back lanai and turned it into a TV room. We’re so happy we did because with five people, we really needed the space,” she says.
Ten-foot ceilings add to the spacious feel found in all of the homes. Innovative use of glass block windows allows light but maintains privacy in the bathrooms and utility area. The yards are zero-lot line, but all have more than enough room for a private pool. The sidewalks that run throughout Hammock Reserve make it pedestrian friendly for walkers and runners, residents walking their pets and for those in wheelchairs. A lawn service provided through the homeowner association maintains homeowner’s yards and all common areas.
 Hammock Reserve homeowners Goldbergs
Ted and Jennifer Goldberg moved to Hammock Reserve two years ago. He is a finance manager at Rick Case Hyundai in Davie and Jennifer is an English teacher at Omni Middle School in Boca Raton. Their 17-year-old daughter, Sydney, is a senior at Spanish River High School. Jennifer says, “We moved to Hammock Reserve because it seemed the most value for the money.”
Shortly after they moved in, the pair discovered the many other pluses of living in Hammock Reserve. “I love the neighbors and feeling of community. I enjoy walking my dog, Andrew, (a white poodle,) and chatting with the neighbors. I feel like if I ever needed anything my neighbors would be there for me,” she says.
Ted is equally happy. “We purchased it at such an excellent value, we were able to add a beautiful pool and travertine patio,” he says.
The entire family enjoys cooking together in their kitchen that was remodeled before they bought it. It has all the latest, high end appliances. Jennifer jokes, “Ted and I will probably be buried in the backyard unless we win the lottery. We are definitely committed to staying here for the foreseeable future.”

Located conveniently close to the beach (three miles,) shopping, schools, highways and major arterial streets and Delray’s trendy downtown area, Hammock Reserve is also located just far enough away from the crowds to be quiet and peaceful. And that’s just the beginning.
More than convenient, Hammock Reserve is also known for its park like setting. Mature southern live Oak trees and a variety of palms line the winding streets. Red Ixora, blue plumbago and white, spiral gardenias are a few of the wide variety of flowers, plants and shrubs that grow so abundantly community-wide. Situated in this 83-acre, tropical paradise are the 273 single family homes that professionals of all ages and retirees call home.
Rather than being painted in drab colors ─ as is so common in South Florida─ the houses in Hammock Reserve are coated with a patented, synthetic resin that comes in a variety of pastel colors, reminiscent of the cheerful homes in the Caribbean. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the coating requires little upkeep and helps to protect the interiors of these houses from insects and water.
At night, old-fashioned looking street lights softly illuminate the gated community. That added sense of security beckons residents to spend time outside and enjoy the evening hours.
