The year 2017 has proven to be far from mundane. Boca Raton has its share of changes on the near horizon and updates for the city are soon to come. Regardless of some of the changes to our community, there’s plenty of exciting trends in home improvements, keeping residents on their toes to stay current. But, take a moment and sit down. We’ve collected and will highlight some of this year’s most sought after renovations for you to ponder while you kick back, relax and read this week’s blog.

At the beginning of every new year, the Design & Construction week kicks off their show including the National Association of Home Builders and the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The show features the latest innovations from kitchen cabinetry to solutions for your man cave! This is a great expo that features some of the most advanced benefits in both construction as well as décor. We wanted to give you a snapshot of what we found to be in synchronization for your Boca Raton home or condominium.

The smart home theme continues for this year with the advancements of smart refrigerators. These newer appliances are being constructed with both Wi-Fi as well as interior monitors. The monitors are an excellent solution for checking what you’re out of even if you aren’t at home. The technology allows you to look inside with the touch of a smartphone no matter where you are. We’ve all done it before where you arrive at the grocery store only to find you need to have someone check to see if you have all the ingredients to make your favorite dish. You’ve probably bought an overstock of one item or perhaps forgot about the one you really needed. Well those days are over for people who invest in these refrigerators equipped with artificial intelligence.

Since we’re talking about appliances, this year’s finish has kicked the stainless-steel look to the curb. What the show revealed for 2017 is matte finishes for stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators. These ensembles look incredible with Flat Charcoal or Flat Slate. Besides the modern and chic look, they are fingerprint-less! Also, known as Black Stainless these newer finishes are sure to be far from a steal. Even top-notch brands such as Miele are leaning toward a “Truffle Brown” color that is certainly going to impress their luxury markets.

Besides the appliances getting a whole new color schematic, this year’s interior design color of choice is blue! In 2016 we found the paint isles at the local home improvement stores flashing pewter, moss and ivory. No longer a chance of being lost in the neutral tones, blue is making it’s 2017 debut. From navy to powder and every shade of blue in between, will be splattered on everyone’s wall as a fresh new approach to home décor. Just about any shade of blue is ideal when you live in a place like Boca Raton as these hues and tones have a cooling effect.

In addition to the many shades of blue, pastels continue to push their way back into homes around the country. Pastels are always a calming and elegant way to tone down a room. Pale blues, yellows and pinks are romantic and make a great backdrop for any rooms ornamentation. Don’t forget to include some soft greens like celery or kiwi to create an organic or spa like atmosphere.

Creating the right atmosphere for a room is simple by adding the right accent pieces. Last year we were given artistic direction from top designers to throw in splashes of metal like copper, silver and gold. This year they’ve decided to re-introduce more organic materials such as wood, Moroccan rugs and glass. These materials blend nicely with the eclectic styles of Bohemian and Global Elite which are both in the top five design themes for the Year of the Rooster.

Regardless of the year, if you’ve been thinking about décor for your child’s room, the big theme is ‘Galactic’. Anything that must do with outerspace such as glow in the dark stars to hang on the wall, bed ensembles from galaxies far away or anything with the planets, will help your kid to fit right in with today’s latest look.

While these are a few of the latest styles, don’t forget that an old standby is making its way back to the future. We’re talking about geometric patterns such as the Chevron as well as Triangles. Textiles from ‘yester year’ were beaming with an Art Deco influence whereas this year the patterns that are sweeping the design magazines like Elle, are showing more bold and methodical motif.

While we found the kitchen to be the place where the family resides, predictions are leading back to the home theater room for this year. Why wouldn’t they, with all the amenities of a real movie show? Many predictions from the year prior leaned toward the backyard living space whereas this time we are finding more people wanting to be entertained by way of show binging. Whatever floats your boat?

Aside from floating, most luxury houses are designed with bidets and additional amenities set for plush living. Design & Construction week took the bathroom innovations to a whole new level. Sticking to the ‘smart home’ theme, technology now has a self-cleaning toilet. You’ll be finding many of the newer homes built with this type of upgrade as something more than just a novelty. Even the single-family home owners have plunged into state-of-the art appliances and fixtures. That being said, we’re impressed with how fast automation is welcoming itself into our homes.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the most popular progressions to sweep this year’s Design and Construction show. The changes aren’t drastic from 2016, but we think they’re moving in directions that are both aesthetically pleasing as well as smart.
