Art Basel Miami 2016Art Collectors Will Flock Globally to Adding to Their Palm Beach County Homes and Offices.

South Florida seems to be well-versed in the world of art and culture. With Art Basel, just around the corner and soon to hit the shores of South Beach, it’s only a matter of time before Boca Raton residents flee the area to enjoy and show their appreciation for this global event. Since places such as the Boca Art Museum and our local events such as Art Boca Raton are heavily involved we wanted to pay tribute to these outstanding events attended by buyers, collectors, performers and the many creators by featuring some highlights in this blog.
First, let’s discuss some quick history on the premier contemporary show. Since 1970 the visionaries have help to attract over 21 countries and oversee more than 300 exhibitors. In addition to the long list of prestigious art exhibitions, this celebration of painting, pottery, sculpture and performing arts draws in nearly 37,000 visitors each year. Many of the local Boca Raton residents will surely be in attendance as this is South Florida’s largest and most important art fair. For people wanting to socialize, be sure to check out the Boca Museum of Art for their group tours.
The traditional show runs from December 1-4, 2016 and is an annual celebration, for those of you who may be unfamiliar. With attention to the Robb Report, they not only inform people about the 5-star affair of Art Basel, but they also advertise this one of a kind Miami exhibition.

The Miami Beach Convention Center is hosting the mega art display and is just a short drive from the Boca Raton I-95 highway. Many of the country clubs in the area organize a day of participating by driving down together. This occasion is an excellent way to spend your afternoon with friends from the club or a place to bring other art enthusiasts.
For collectors, the galleries will likely bring art to buy as well as display. If you’re new to the area and are looking for pictures or sculptures to fill your luxury condominium or single family home, this would be one place to do some early shopping. In addition to the show itself, several of Miami’s museums will surely be participating in this multi-cultural and dynamic event. Don’t forget to take in a salon-style discussion from renowned curators and the artist’s themselves. These talks could inspire anyone living anywhere by viewing their world through a different perspective.
The community of Boca Raton is home to many up and coming artists and artisans that are sure to be participating in the Art Basel festivities. Renata Cuellar has a delightful and alluring collection of paintings that would fit in any room looking to have certain aesthetic appeal. While she’s served many individuals throughout South Florida, Boca Raton is one where she receives commissioned work from her private collections. If you’re seeking a talented painter to create just the right piece to display in your great room or foyer, this would be a wonderful introduction.
Besides the work of Renata Cuellar who has filled homes with her incredible creations, the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton is yet another mystery the curators may reveal during this year’s Art Basel extravaganza. The 52,000-square foot museum that was in our city closed its doors in 2002 after the inability to keep it opened. Many of the cartoon collections were given to the Cartoon Research Library after the museum had folded.

Although we no longer have the IMCA in our area, we can still see the legacy of one of Boca Raton’s most famous architects, Addison Mizner. Now, you can find a multitude of places where this beautiful artist developed his craft and built the land of Boca Raton to where it is today. Mizner Park dedicated his life to representing his contributions. Part of his work in the hospitality industry stands today and is known as the Boca Raton Resort and Club which used to be the Ritz-Carlton Cloister. One stroll through this historic landmark, and you’ll quickly learn of his gain in making this Palm Beach County neighborhood one worth a visit. Addison Mizner was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame as someone who significantly contributed to the beautification of this southern state. While there may not be much mention of Mizner at this year’s 2016 Art Basel, anyone at the exhibit is sure to know of the Floridian’s heritage of Mr. Mizner.

Besides the new and historical hall of fame in the art world, Art Basel is a catalyst to starting programs such as Pop Up exhibits including Boca Raton resident artist, Carol Prusa. Prusa’s contemporary work includes using materials such as fiberglass, aluminum leaf and internally placed lighting. You can find the Chicago-born artist pursuing her career with accolades from around the world. Incidentally, for those unable to trek down to Miami for the Art Basel event, Art Pop-In Palm Beach may be more convenient. The venue found at North Clematis Street, may be closer for those living closer to West Palm Beach. However, be sure to make an appointment as the show is December 6th and only for one day. We encourage you to contact the coordinator directly.

To imagine the world without art seems bleak. Artists and their visions allow us to live in a world full of grandeur and beauty. Furthermore, if we never had artistic ingenuity, we would live in square boxes without any positive sides. Architecture would be dull and uninspiring. Our homes would be functional but bland and without the many niceties we’ve grown to admire. We’re sure to encourage those who are gifted to continue to create. We also hope that people in our communities continue to support the arts by attending such events as Art Basel, and Art Pop -In as well as Boca Raton Museum of Art. Pablo Picasso put it well when he said: “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” We hope that you leave us a comment on what you enjoyed about the art show.
