While the median household income in Boca Raton levels out around $70K, this Southern Florida town is called home by many high net worth individuals. This area has also been proven to be one of the most generous when it comes to the many philanthropic organizations and charities headquartered here. In this blog we focus on some of the top philanthropic causes where our ultra-wealthy residents reside.
It seems that almost any day of the week, you can find some type of charitable cause to attach to in Palm Beach county as well as Boca’s neighboring cities. Whether you like to help animals or wildlife or attend a gala to benefit cancer patients, there’s something for everyone.
You can find local non-profits to attach to by simply doing a Google search or by visiting sites like www.greatnonprofits.com or www.bocaguide.com.
Great Nonprofits is similar to crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter but has a specific focus to help those in need. This is a website that lists charities and organizations. You can read stories about specific individuals who are seeking assistance in raising money for their cause. You can seek local organizations by registering with the site and adding a zip code.
Boca Guide hosts a section for volunteers in the community where you can become involved helping the elderly, theater and historical society to name a few. We suggest attaching to a ‘meaningful cause’ that you are emotionally connected with. However, there is plenty of considerable beneficence where you can donate your time or gifts.
One of the other methods of becoming involved would be to contact one of the local hospitals such as Boca Raton Regional. The host a prestigious society seeking value for improvements in the facility such as newer technology and innovation, outpatient therapies and wellness programs. We can assure you that when you live in a specific community, we can all benefit by medical advancements no matter if it’s educating the staff or patient care.
Another area that many of our local residents become attached to is that of academia. Educational institutions, colleges and even elementary schools are always on a mission to fund programs and get volunteers to help with their events.
Florida Atlantic University and Everglades University are two local facilities that each has separate curriculums for charitable causes. These schools offer scholarship programs and host galas throughout the year to help students with education, sports and the arts.

If you prefer to support arts and culture, make no mistake, Boca is an excellent place to find 501c’s that are always available and seeking your assistance. The Boca Museum of Art not only offers classes to up and coming artisans, the museum itself has Docent positions where you can host exhibits by educating the public through a theme-based tour. This can be an excellent way to prove your knowledge as well as donating your time.

Other than the arts, if your time is well spent on a golf course or tennis court, then perhaps you’ll need to become involved in the many tournaments in and around the area. Nonprofits such as the Allianz Championship PGA Tour or Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic are a couple events to mark on your calendar. Each event raises money for their specific causes such as funding for Boca Regional Hospital and Celebrity Tennis Star Chris Evert’s several charities.

These types of events can be entertaining as well as give you a sense of pride in supporting local causes that help the masses.

We can’t forget our naturalists and nature lovers. The community of Boca Raton has plenty of projects from park beautification, farmer’s markets and help with parks and recreation centers. Places like Gumbo Limbo (a sea turtle refuge) often times accepted donations, but they also provide sponsorship through their “Friends of Gumbo” Limbo organization. The park is open daily and is an excellent place to take children for a learning experience. That being said, philanthropy can be a family event and is encouraged to round up the troops when supporting a good cause.

If you prefer the sounds of trumpets over nature, then be sure to check out the Allegro Society. This non-profit organization helps to raise scholarship awards to musicians and the performing arts. This organization is a part of the Boca Raton Symphonia who hosts a musical luncheon annually to assist high school musical talent. This is both an excellent way to give back and be well entertained in the process.

If you live in one of the many country clubs nearby such as The Polo Club or Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club check with the concierge services for information on volunteer programs they are hosting. Many times the clubs become involved and will host dinners and parties that support some worthy causes. Another common theme at these clubs is to offer food drives and toy donations to deserving families. Whether you’re gifting money or you’re donating time, keep in mind that the end result is where to keep your focus. In other words, just become a part of one of these events or cultural attractions at the club level or on your own. It just might be advantageous by being pro-active in your community.

Whether you have spent time as a board member on a nonprofit or you’ve volunteered, you are well aware of the hard work and dedication people demonstrate for a successful campaign. Our suggestion is to become involved in any way that you can. Giving back to the community in which you live is not only rewarding it’s necessary. Becoming involved helps to strengthen the community, show humankind, love and democracy. It’s also an ideal way to make friends with like-minded individuals when you move to a new location. It can also help you stay connected while traveling or moving. Undoubtedly, when people participate and work together the results can be completely gratifying.
